Foundation

“We have dreams that have to be true. But we are in a new situation now. We are facing HIV&AIDS. We all are at risk, in the same boat. We have to do something about it and not die at this early age”

Thus, we have organized our self and established a youth club where we can meet and discuss each other about HIV&AIDS and other relevant issues and work together.

This was the first discussion we had together with the founding members to establish the then Hiwot anti-AIDS Club/association and now Hiwot Ethiopia.

Hiwot Ethiopia was founded as an anti-AIDS youth club in 1995 by 14 volunteers of young men and women who decided to work actively to protect themselves and others from HIV/AIDS... using awareness as a strategy.

The organization, which initially started as a small club has passed through the different stages to reach its present level and become a youth organization. In 1997, the youth club was developed to an association and registered under the Addis Ababa City Administration.

In 2001, it formally registered under Ministry of Justice and signed operational agreement with Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Commission (DPPC), enabling to operate in Addis Ababa, Amhara region and South Nation Nationality People (SNNP) region.
